Applications were accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for the Fair Lawn Police Department the week of July 21 of last year
The junior academy training, which is free of charge, included visits to the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Complex in Mahwah, the Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the county Sheriff’s Office and the county courthouse, both in Hackensack.
Junior recruits also had the opportunity to see demonstrations conducted by a county K-9 unit, bomb squad and SWAT team and also visit the Fair Lawn Fire Department, Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corps.
Recruits had be 11 to 14 years old by Aug. 1 of that year to qualify. Applications were picked up at Fair Lawn Police headquarters, 8-01 Fair Lawn Ave.
