The Landis MarketPlace won a 2014 Excellence in Housing and Economic Development Awards for creating a downtown tourist destination. It was one of several winners that were announced by the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority on Thursday.
"The winning projects, which are all collaborative efforts of both private and public entities, help stabilize families and neighborhoods and create economic mobility," said Anthony L. Marchetta, executive director of the state Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency. Landis MarketPlace shares the Leading Public-Private Economic Development Partnership Award with the Kula Cafe in Asbury Park.
The Vineland-based marketplace was selected for "creating a downtown tourist destination and meeting regional market demand for specialty foods," according to the announcement.
This year's winners are invited to the 2014 Governor's Conference on Housing and Economic Development at the Atlantic City Convention Center on Sept. 23.
